A Tower experience is any experience that shakes the foundation of your current sense of security and forces you to question your attitudes, beliefs, perceptions and behaviors. It can be the death of a loved one, a divorce, bankruptcy, health problems or job loss, or any other kind of event that affects you mentally, physically and spiritually.
When you see the Tower in a reading, you may feel shaken, afraid and insecure. It is a time of great chaos and destruction as you seek to understand how you could have been so wrong or so blind about a particular situation. You may be experiencing depression, anger, sleepless nights, grief and confrontation. These are normal reactions to major changes in your outer and inner worlds.
The most important feature of the Tower is that creation comes after destruction. In this sense, the Tower card represents an awakening, and it is about inspiration, reality, freedom and breaking free. It represents a necessary experience that forces you to leave your comfort zone and to grow beyond your current level. The sudden destruction represented in the Tower stands for the immediacy of change and the effects it has. After this destruction, you can either go back to the restrictive Devil, or reach for the inspirational Star. When you begin to approach the Star, you will realize that your reals strength and security is within yourself and your relationship with the Universe. Truth and fairness will produce a positive change, even if first you must endure anxiety and pain.
The Tower also represents the structures you have built as personal defenses that hide your true and inner feelings and thoughts. These structures will be put to test in time of stress and pressure, and they may shatter, and thus, reveal your true self. So you need to be careful about how much you try to hide, because one day everything will be revealed.
The Tower thus asks you to tear down the structures that you have surrounded yourself with. This can be a difficult and painful process if you fight back the external forces that are pushing you to reveal more of yourself. Remember that the Tower will fall, whether you like it or not, because you have reached your limits in this area and can no longer live with it.
